Getting Artsy in Chelsea

Rainy Saturdays in NYC can sometimes be a bust. I was determined to make the most of my weekend and decided to set out on a cultural adventure. I have heard about all the free art galleries in Chelsea, but have never checked them out. Scrolling through my Instagram in bed after waking up, a picture came onto my screen via @hiddengemofnyc. Needless to say it caught my attention. I texted the Frans and a couple hours later, Nat and I were headed down to Chelsea.

The picture was from a gallery on West 24th Street between 10th and 11th Avenue so I thought that was a good place to start.

I was blow away by the quality of art that I experienced. The entire avenue was jam packed with galleries with an incredible variety of pieces.

Some of the art was quite unique and unusual. This gallery was filled with objects and scenes made of wood.

We walked into this gallery and the two boys below were singing an opera walking from sculpture to sculpture.

I'm still trying to understand what was happening at this gallery.

Started from the bottom...

One man's trash is another man's treasure?

Does anyone else remember the Shammy?

And then some were breathtaking.

This is the art instillation I saw on Instagram. It is at the Mary Boone Gallery and titled "Skyfarm Fortress" by Jacob Hashimoto

I overheard the art curator at this gallery say that it takes years for the paint on these pieces to dry.

This gallery played with light and colors, truly an interactive experience.

We even got to take a little swing.

I highly recommend taking a tour of the Chelsea Art Galleries. We only scratched the surface, I can't wait to go back!

Indian Summer

Indian Summer...a period of warm weather in the late autumn

Last weekend, we experienced an Indian Summer. Temps popped up to the mid 80's and people were sent into a furry of confusion over the climate change. Having already done the seasonal closet swap, I had to dig under my bed to pull out a top.

A few of the Frans headed downtown for brunch at Miss Lily's. Known more for it's nighttime atmosphere, the mood was much calmer during the midday.

Miss Lily's refers to themselves as a "Caribbean oasis in the middle of downtown Manhattan". The cuisine is Jamaican and I was interested to see what they had to offer...so were the Frans.

As expected there were a number of sauces to spice up your meal.

The restaurant also offers a variety of fresh juices. Melvin's Juice Box next door is squeezing and pressing fresh juice daily for the people.

Because great minds think alike, we each got the Jerk Pork Belly Hash. The pork had a little too much fat for my taste (personal preference), but the flavors were delicious. They mixed in sweet potato, onion and topped the egg with a tomatillo sauce.

The sun was so beautiful...but I'm ready for Fall.

Full and satisfied, we decided to talk a little walk after.

Love Nat's new bucket bag from Zara.

Stumbling upon this wall art in Soho, I could not help but snap a few shots.

We ended the evening with some Rose and appetizers in the West Village. When the weather is perfect I only want to be outside. We randomly stumbled upon Doppio. It is a small chain in the city, but the food was delicious and just right for the moment.

Warmer weather allows for one more Rose.

Calamari, Tuna Tartar, Octopus Salad...all my favorite nibbles.

So long Summer. Welcome Fall.
